Vorlesungsformat

Online material — Below, you find the online material for the lecture, including videos, script, quizzes, and exercise sheets. This material provides you with different possibilities to follow the lecture:

On-site lecture — Whatever your further choices are, you should come to the on-site lectures on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:15-13:00 hrs (and to the Exercises on Fridays, 14:15-16:00), as indicated on the main page. I will use these times to introduce into the topic in the classic way, by presenting the content on the blackboard, complemented with visual material on slides etc. The lecture and exercises will be held in English.

Recapitulation — For each lecture (numbered as L01, L02, ... and associated to the respective weeks as listed below), videos numbered as L01-1, -2, etc. will be uploaded and accessible below. (The viewer permits also fast playback.) You may use these to recapitulate the lecture content. (The video presentations may, from time to time, deviate from those given in the lectures.)

For your convencience, the respective audio transcript is provided with each video, as well as the video slides, in case you want to quickly review some of the content.

In addition to the video material, a lecture script is provided for download. I will continuously update its content and indicate the respective latest date, so make sure you always have the most recent version.

Find out for yourself, how you recapitulate the lecture in the best possible and useful way. You may also use the material to prepare yourself in advance for the lecture and use that more to clarify remaining questions.

You may take written notes during such preparation, for which you can of course halt the video whenever you want, and, e.g., try to work out in some more detail intermediate calculational steps which have been sketched in the video. Alternatively you complete your notes when recapitulating the lecture.

Exercises — To complement the lecture, we will, as usual, upload exercise sheets and (partially) mark your solutions. They will be discussed by Martin Zboron on Friday afternoon, 14:15-16:00 hrs, exclusively on-site as indicated on the main page.

For the marked sheets as well as for any further handed-in sheets you will collect points, with which you can qualify for taking part in the exam. We will hand out further details later.

Quizzes — A further means to recapitulate the lecture material and test your understanding is provided in the form of online quizzes for the respective lectures, possibly from a different point of view. You can do them straightaway once they are online, and we will close them before the respective exercise session, where their results will or can be discussed. We will also give points for any quiz you take part in.

Rocket chat — We have opened a chat room for discussing any questions concerning the lecture and the exercises.

Further remarks — The idea is to contain classic unidirectional blackboard presentation and to be able to interact more during the course and focus on particular difficulties. While I return, with this lecture, to presenting the material in the classical style, the extra material shall give you more possibilities to better connect with the content and more quickly and profoundly understand and learn what is meant to be conveyed.

For sure, in the ideal case, you would prepare for the lecture in advance such that we may focus most on the remaining difficulties during the on-site sessions, whereafter you have more possibilities to test yourself and apply your knowledge in doing the exercises. Finally, you can ask more questions and clarify details during the exercise sessions.

I am aware, though, that this full `inverted-classroom' procedure requires sufficient time, which you may not have at hand within your dense study programme. Hence, you may try and optimize yourself within the offers provided here.

Any feedback on the way we do it and suggestion on how we could do better is most welcome.
