In this lecture we will cover the seminal experiments in atomic, molecular, optical, and quantum physics and particularly the techniques used therein.
Some of the topics are: Atom and ion trapping, laser cooling and spectroscopy, cold quantum gases, matter interferometry, and physics with ultrashort laser pulses.
This lecture will help build a firm intuition for the experimental techniques that drive and enable the success of modern AMO physics.
In the weekly exercises (~10 in total) you will discuss recent scientific publications closely related to the lecture in course.
Each exercise sheet consists of several problems (with 10 points assigned in total), such as discussing essential aspects of the paper, sketching elements of the experiment, and performing simple calculations and estimates.
Participants have to deliver 70% of the total of problems and present and discuss in the class at least one exercise (of assigned 3 points minimum) to pass the class (4 CP).
Attendance to the exercise class is mandatory. The lecture final grade will be based on the points obtained on the sheets and the discussed exercise.
