These lectures are intended for Master students of physics. The implications of symmetry in physics are ubiquitous and very interesting. Mathematically, they are described by group theory. The lectures start with finite groups and then disuss the most important Lie groups and Lie algebras, in particular SU(2), SU(3), the Lorentz and Poincaré groups, the conformal group and the gauge groups of the standard model and of grand unification.

There will be no Tutors or Tutorials for this advanced lecture, however, we will use the chat system to discuss upcomig questions. Exercises will be proposed during the lecture and in the lecture notes. Please sign up for the exercise group to participate in the chat system (see also https://uebungen.physik.uni-heidelberg.de/chat/home) and to be able to pose questions there.

The lectures themselves will be provided as (asynchronous) video recordings, with a rate of about one lecture per week, to be accessed remotely. The lecture notes will be provided also in pdf form.
