Dear Students,

Welcome to the lecture Theoretical Physics IV - Quantum Physics in the summer semester of 2020. This semester will not be normal. Despite all things going on we will find a good way to teach Quantum Physics. There will be no contact hours as you and I were used to. There is currently no date planned when we will be able to start our normal way of teaching. I am prepared for a pure online lecture until the end of the semester. I hope at least the written exam will be held in a relatively normal fashion. 
 
We have created several on-line tools to make our course interactive. As usual there will be lectures and tutorials, you have homework that will be handed in and graded. Below you can find the details to the lectures, tutorials and technicalities. 
 
I arrived in Heidelberg about 3 years ago and this is my first Bachelor lecture I teach in Heidelberg. I really look forward to this, especially the interaction with all of you. Even though we will not be able to meet in person we will meet in our web seminars or interact on one of the Forums accompanying the lecture.

A) Lectures 

A.1) You will find a script combined with several videos online at the Moodle site accompanying our lecture. These you can read and watch any time you find convenient. As long as you are at least on schedule. I will tell you each week what will be discussed during the lectures of this week and what you are supposed to have read, watched and studied. Studying at home removes quite some social pressure. Your internal motivation is now more important than ever. Don't fall behind. 
 
A.2) We are scheduled to meet on Tuesday and Thursday at 11:15. We will meet not in real life as planed at our institute, but on-line using a web seminar. During this seminar I will give a 5 minute presentation on the learning goals of this week. After that there is time for questions. You should be prepared when you join these seminars. These scheduled seminars provide a great time slot for you to do some multi-tasking. Watch the important videos (again), (re-) read parts of the script, ask questions in the web seminar and get instant answers from me. Last but not least these scheduled moments are a good time to contact with your fellow students (and discuss the topics of the lecture). 
 
A.3) Each chapter of the script has a Forum. Use this to ask questions or start discussions. Feel free to answer the questions of your colleagues. Simple questions I will answer on the Forum. More involved questions either in the web-seminar or with additional videos. 
 
A.4) The first lecture will be on Tuesday the 21-st of April 11:15. 
 
A.5) There are a lot of technical details that need to be sorted out. We will have a test lecture 0 on Thursday the 16-th 11:15. 
 

B) Tutorials

B.1) You will be assigned a homework problem at the beginning of the week that you need to hand in before Saturday evening 23:59 of that week.
 
B.2) These homework problems will be discussed in smaller groups with a tutor. These meetings are not in real life, but virtual using a web seminar. 
 

C) Technical details

C.1) The lecture notes, videos, home work problems and forums can be found on Moodle
 
C.2) You can download your homework problems as a pdf. You will need to upload your solutions to our server. (On this site, see above). In order to do this you either need to use LaTeX to typeset your answers and generate a pdf, or scan your hand written answers. Some of your colleagues know much better which app to use to scan a hand-written document than I do. Use our web seminar on Thursday the 16-th or place / answer a post in our Forum.
 
C.3) For the web seminars on Tuesday and Thursday we will use Zoom. You can find the link to our seminar on the Moodle page.
 
C.4) Each Tutor is free to choos his or her tool to host his or her webseminar. You can find the tools used by the Tutors below the Tutors name on this page. Please install the apropriate software on your computer to follow the Tutorials.
